Our story

How It Started

📅 In 2013, the NDIS started in Australia.

📄 A government worker sent a letter to people with disability.

🧠 The letter had lots of big words and jargon and was hard to read.

🧍 Sam changed the letter to make it easier to understand.

📘 She called it “Sam Translates”.

🛠️ Since then, she likes to help make hard things easy to understand.

💡 That is why Sam started The Growing Space www.thegrowingspace.com.au.

🏢 The Growing Space is a business that helps people understand the NDIS.

A Big Problem at the Art Gallery

🖼️ One day, Sam went to a big art gallery.

🪧 The sign for an artist had long words and tricky ideas.

🔁 She read them again and again but still didn’t understand.

🤔 Sam thought, “This is silly!”

👦 If I can’t understand it, how could my son Ben who has intellectual disability?

🧕 Or my young friend Rasa, who just arrived from Afghanistan?

😠 Sam felt upset.

🛑 Everyone should be able to understand information.

Why It’s Hard to Get Easy Words

💵 Getting help with Easy Read and Easy English takes a lot of money.

⏳ It also takes a long time to do.

🚫 People can not get this help easily.

🏢 Only big groups like government or businesses can afford it.

📱 Sam wanted an app that works on a phone.

🤳 She wanted people to use it anytime, anywhere.

Using AI to Help

🤖 Sam learned how AI could help.

🔍 AI means computers that help with smart tasks.

⚠️ Sam knows AI is not perfect.

💬 Some things still need real Easy Read by a person.

🧑‍⚕️ Like health, government, or emergency information.

✅ But AI can help quickly when you need it most.

🧠 That made Sam very excited.

Building the App with Family

👨‍👩‍👧 Sam talked to her brother, Jon.

♾️ Jon is autistic.

💻 He is very good with computers and tech stuff.

🔐 He knows a lot about safety and privacy online.

⚙️ Jon does all the technology for The Growing Space.

🤝 Together, Jon and Sam made the Make it easy app.

What’s Next

📲 When the beta version is finished, parts of the app will be free.

🚨 It will always be free for people in an emergency.

📑 Most NDIS participants can pay for it with their plan.

🗣️ This will work for people who are self or plan managed.

Thank You!

🎉 Sam and Jon and Ben feel happy and proud.

🛠️ They will always work to make the app better.

🙏 Thank you for your help and ideas.
